Grade 8 Retreat
2025

The Grade 8 Retreat is in it's 22nd year and has become a significant annual tradition for new Dragons entering Fleetwood Park. The retreat is a time for new Dragons to be instilled with the values that set the tone for our school's fantastic culture. Grade 8s begin the socialization into the larger school community as over 100 Student Volunteers in Gr. 10,11&12 teach lessons and provide leadership to our new Dragons. Such support from the Sr. students is testimony of the impact the Grade 8 Retreat had on them when they were in Grade 8.

Philosophy

•A chance to build new friendships
•A chance to relate to staff on a less formal level
•A desire to give new students a special experience, shared by all
•A way to review concepts of social responsibility, and to learn about the performance standards
•A chance for senior students to show their leadership potential
•A desire to build a lasting, positive school tradition
•Students who break out of normal school routines, often retain new learning better, and have a more positive memory of their shared experience.
•Overnight was a must to build trust and camaraderie between all who attend the retreat.

T E S T I M O N I A L S

"I came from a school and didn't know anyone! The grade 8 retreat was the first time I got to meet new people. I remember the campfire and this is where I felt the most at home. I also got to know my grade 8 teachers which made me feel a lot better going into the school year"
Laura Baldry (2015 Grad)

"The meaning of a Dragon can be learned while attending the Grade 8 Retreat. I've loved every moment of the experience and still have some close friendships today that were created at the Retreat!"
Liam Abreo (2017 Grad)

"They had really fun activities and everyone was involved. I also loved the food! I like how we got to meet the older students who volunteered at the camp."
